The following was taken from the Yorkshire Regiment website

Died 1 Jan 1921 aged 29 as a consequence of having been gassed during the war. He was the son of Mr and Mrs William Ward of Field House Farm, Yarm and was himself a local farmer. He left a wife and one child. Ward was a Methodist. Yarm Cemetery

Yarm1914 believe that John Thomas was born in 1891, The first son of William and Esther Annie Ward who were living in Upsall near Easingwold. By teh time he was 10 John Thomas, known as Thomas was living with his grandparents Thomas and Ellen ward in Bagby near Thirsk. His grandfather aged 65 was a cowkeeper and his father was a labourer living with his family in Crathorne. In 1911 he had moved to Valley Farm in Deighton near Northallerton and worked as a farm labourer. His family had moved to Field House Farm on Worsall Road in Yarm where his father aged 17 is recorded in the census as a farmer with son William aged 18 as an assistant. Living in the farm were William's daughters Maggie 16 and Winniefred 15, son Arthur 12 and mnephew Franl 9. When he signed up in Stockton for the 5th Durham Light Infantry, John Thomas records Field House Farm as his home.
